This year more than fifty ensembles from all over Ukraine came to the Podillia dance festival. The program lasted three days.
The spring expedition of the project ended in the village of Zhvanets in the Kamianets-Podilskyi district, where a community of resettlers from flooded Bakota has been preserved. The researchers managed to record twelve melodies, none of which had been documented before, and fully reconstruct three dances.
The main find was a variant of the "Bakotochanka" dance performed by two sisters, Mariia and Hanna Pysarchuk. According to them, this variant was danced only in one corner of Bakota and differs from the well-known stage version — a slower tempo and a more complex "wreath" figure.
All recordings are already being processed by the project choreographers; the most interesting material will be included in the autumn release of educational videos.
